If fascism is the collective mind harnessed by illusion against the individual, Askance Studio celebrates the individual first. We are a collective of pseudonymous artists – not to hide so much as obscure the technician’s connection to the art.

In nature, revelation and inspiration emerge capriciously. Emotion stirs without evidence of its source. We come upon it. It strikes us, and marks us. Like beauty, that is when Art is at its purest – when it simply speaks to the beholder.

Yes, context and background are important. The circumstance of the artist can be pivotal. But our artists choose not to stand at the forefront. Our view is that the whos and hows and whys of the artist’s persona too often deflect or inflect the audience’s perception of the work.
